SSL rules are changing. Keep your business connected.
Shorter certificate lifetimes make reliable renewal more important. A missed renewal can leave customers facing a security warning instead of your website.
What’s happening?
Let’s Encrypt announced on 7 October that its default certificate lifetime will fall from 90 to 64 days for certificates issued or renewed from 10 February 2027. Existing valid certificates will not be revoked as part of this change.
Many hosts already renew certificates automatically. Ask yours who checks that renewal and installation succeed, and what happens if they fail.
Already seeing a problem?
SSL warning, website down, broken page or an enquiry form that has stopped working? Send me your website address. I’ll help investigate and agree the next step and any costs with you.
I’m Garry Lynch at Bear Media, based in West Lothian. I help small businesses, sole traders and side hustles in Livingston, Broxburn, Bathgate, Linlithgow, Edinburgh and the surrounding Lothians work out what has gone wrong with their website. Start with the problem you can see; you don’t need to know the technical cause.
SSL certificate errors and security warnings
An expired SSL certificate or HTTPS configuration problem can stop customers reaching your site. If you see “Your connection is not private”, “Not secure” or a certificate error, send me the exact message so I can check the cause.
Website down or not working
A website that will not load, shows a blank page or returns a server error may have a hosting, domain, DNS or software fault. Tell me when it last worked and whether anything changed before the problem started.
Broken pages, layouts and contact forms
Sometimes the website opens but part of it has stopped doing its job. I can investigate broken links, mobile display problems and enquiry forms that are not sending, then agree the repair and check the affected journey.
Hacked website concerns and suspicious changes
Unexpected redirects, unfamiliar pages or changes you did not make are worth investigating. I can look at the signs, discuss recovery options and explain when specialist security help is needed.
Share your website address and what you’re seeing.

Optional ongoing care
A little help, month after month.
Up to one hour of website support each month for changes, SSL and hosting issues, and security concerns. Additional work is £75 per hour, agreed before it begins.
Yes, you can enquire about an existing website even if Bear Media did not build it. Share the address, what is going wrong and the platform or hosting company if you know it. I will check what access and work are needed before agreeing an investigation or repair.
Why is my website showing “Not secure” or “Your connection is not private”?
These messages can have different causes, including a missing, expired or incorrectly configured SSL certificate, or a page using HTTP instead of HTTPS. I can investigate the certificate and hosting setup. A browser warning on its own does not prove that a website has been hacked.
My website is down or not loading. Can you help?
Send the website address and the exact error message, and say when it last worked. Hosting, domain, DNS, software and certificate problems can all affect access. I will investigate the likely cause and agree the next step and any costs with you.
What if I think my website has been hacked?
Tell me about unexpected redirects, unfamiliar pages, changed content or warnings you have seen. I can investigate the signs and explain the recovery work or specialist help needed. The work depends on the site, the available access and any usable backups; recovery is not guaranteed.
How much does website repair cost?
One-off website repairs are scoped around the problem and access needed. I agree the cost of any paid investigation or repair before work begins. Optional ongoing support is £75 a month for up to one hour; additional support work is £75 an hour, agreed in advance. The monthly plan is not a fixed price for every repair.
Do you offer website repair in West Lothian and Edinburgh?
Yes. I am based in West Lothian and help small businesses in Livingston, Broxburn, Bathgate, Linlithgow, Edinburgh and the surrounding Lothians. Website faults can often be investigated remotely, with the access and scope agreed first.
Can you help with WordPress errors or a problem after an update?
Tell me which platform your website uses and what changed before the error appeared. For WordPress, mention any recent plugin, theme or hosting updates. I will assess the setup and explain whether I can carry out the work or whether specialist help is needed.
Do I need a new website or a monthly contract?
You can enquire about a one-off repair without taking monthly support. An existing website can often be repaired. I will explain what is practical and discuss a rebuild only where it is a suitable option.
